Mark Smith Studio Pottery Salt Glaze Teapot

£175.00Price
Quantity

This fantastic teapot, body thrown and turned with the spout and handle fashioned from the same moulded shape, and stylised bird knop to the handle, presages Mark Smith's transition, from about the year 2000, to handbuilt models and away from salt glaze and is quite unlike his quiet earlier salt glaze work.

It still shows his mastery of the technique, with the inky blue finish characteristic of his salt glaze work.

The teapot is marked on the footrim with Mark's impressed stamp for 1995-2009. The three feet have been ground by the potter to give a pleasing lean.

Mark Smith (born 1964) established a career as a salt glaze potter, from 1994 working from Green Gate Pottery near Ashbourne in Derbyshire. From about 2000 he moved away from salt glaze to hand built models of humorous boats fish, etc.. He ceased making salt glazed pottery in 2005.

Size: Length from end of spout to bend of handle 22cm, 16 cm tall to top of lid.

Condition: Excellent condition, no chips cracks or restoration
